About Bruce

Bruce Brebner is the founder of 'the highland walking society' and a qualified International Mountain Leader (IML).

Bruce was born and brought up in Strathpeffer a small village in the Northern Scottish Highlands. His father and uncle started 'Highland Safaris' the first wildlife/walking holiday company in the Highlands in 1963.

Bruce has loved the mountains from a very early age. Climbing his first Munro in winter at the age of 8, he has been climbing mountains during the summer and winter for over 40 years. He has traveled widely, mainly in Third World countries and undertaken a number of extended trips to mountain areas including those in Europe, the Himalayas and Africa.

Bruce is an architect by profession and until 2016 was a partner in a firm of architects. As well as running 'the highland walking society, Bruce is co-founder of 'hirta' an organisation that promotes Scottish creativity.

Bruce lives between Strathpeffer, Edinburgh and the Greek Island of Serifos. When not in the mountains he enjoys flying gliders.
